Greek products carry with them their history and tradition
An image of the industry’s export potential is being solidified
With 250 exhibitors from 19 countries, hundreds of business meetings, and numerous parallel events, the event will last until Sunday.
“The FOOD & DRINKS by Detrop international exhibition is an opportunity not only to further open up the European market but, more importantly, to convey that Greek products, beyond their promotion, nutritional value, and status as some of the finest products in the world, also carry with them their history and tradition.” With these words, the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Kostas Tsiaras, inaugurated the FOOD & DRINKS by Detrop international exhibition, this evening. Referring to the event, Mr. Tsiaras noted that during his tour of the stands, the expectations he had were exceeded by reality. He emphasized that the transformation of Detrop into a new exhibition highlights the efforts of both HELEXPO and Greece as a whole to showcase the country’s significant food and beverage products. Speaking about the sector, he noted that an image of Greek products’ export potential is being consolidated.
The Deputy Governor of Central Macedonia for Outreach, Mr. Branislav (Bane) Prelevic, called FOOD & DRINKS “the tastiest food and drink exhibition,” an event evolving and hosting many innovative activities this year, both within the exhibition center and around the city, along with thematic events. He also noted that the Region of Central Macedonia is participating with 46 companies.
Deputy Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Theodoros Markopoulos, underscored the major emphasis that the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace places on food and drinks, noting that many companies in the area are investing in wine and food.
In turn, the Deputy Regional Governor for the Primary Sector and Agricultural Economy of the Region of Thessaly, Mr. Dimitris Tsetsilas, announced that the Region of Thessaly is participating with 10 companies in the FOOD & DRINKS by Detrop international exhibition, expressing hope that this number will double next year.
“Western Macedonia could not miss this exhibition,” stated the Deputy Regional Governor for Entrepreneurship and Transportation of Western Macedonia, Mr. Nikos Lyssaridis, noting that 13 companies from the area are participating in FOOD & DRINKS by Detrop.
Thessaloniki’s significant distinction as a UNESCO Gastronomy Destination, as well as the great challenge stemming from this, was emphasized by the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Tourism Development, and Intermunicipal Cooperation of Thessaloniki, Mr. Vasilis Gakis. “It’s a challenge for quality ingredients, proper preparation, proper serving, customer service, and good nutrition for all of us,” he said.
“This year, we are contributing to a strategic sector for the Greek economy,” emphasized the president of HELEXPO, Mr. Tasos Tzikas, referring to FOOD & DRINKS by Detrop. He noted that it presents the image of an international exhibition, highlighting the participation of 19 countries.
FOOD & DRINKS hosts 250 exhibitors (direct and indirect) from 19 countries and includes the Regions of Central Macedonia, Thessaly, North Aegean, Western Macedonia, and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, along with numerous parallel events.
